Getting Married Abroad? Here are Some Key Tips
It sound like the most perfect wedding day. Flying off with your loved one to somewhere hot and tying the knot on a sandy beach without a care in the world. Getting married abroad can be a wonderful experience and a great option for many people. However, its often not as easy as just booking your plane tickets and just jetting off, there are important issues to think about. These three things should most definitely be on your radar.
Cost. Wedding are always going to be an expensive thing to do, but weddings abroad are often in a whole league of their own. Transportation aside, doing simply things like sorting catering and places to stay for everyone seems to frequently cost more when doing it all in another country. You may not be putting people up in a castle hotel, but costs still add up. If you are stretching yourself to make the wedding work financial then you won’t enjoy it for worrying.
Family. Sometimes weddings are as much about the family present as the couple themselves. Unless you are very wealthy, it is likely that family (and friends) would have to pay for their own transportation. Depending on where the wedding is, that could be very expensive and some people may not be able to travel for medical reasons. As weddings are often all about the family, it makes sense to get them involved in the planning and help to decide were the best place to have it is.
Laws. It is very easy to forget that laws vary in every country of the world and when you are on their turf you play by their rules. In your home country it might be fine to get married in bars, fields or castle wedding venues, but abroad you might find that the wedding is only legal if it takes place in a church or similar. What is more, when it comes to booking an official to conduct the wedding ceremony, you might face some issues finding one of the right faith when doing it in other countries.
